This book combined 4 of my favorite genres: Christian, historical fiction, mystery and romance! It maintained my interest the entire time and was not super predictable. It was clean (see below for more specifics) yet satisfied my desire for a good love story. I would highly recommend this book!!


Things to be aware of in “Through Waters Deep”


Language:

  • 1 “idiot”
  • Many mentions of cussing, cursing and “the Navy’s best curse words” but with no elaboration.


Violence:

  • There are themes of sabotage, battles on the water, and holding characters captive. Some of these result in characters dying, being injured or being drugged.
  • A character vomits as a result of a head injury.


Romantic Content:

  • Multiple kisses (both willingly and hesitantly)
  • A man has some thoughts about a woman’s figure (and he describes her waist and legs)
  • A character speaks of his “longing” to kiss a woman (he describes to her the type of kiss).
  • Brushing of lips


Spiritual Content:

I must say I have been very impressed with the Christian content in this book. There are numerous references to Scripture and traits of biblical characters that should be modeled. 


Additional Notes:

  • Mentions of drugs/addicts (and an accusation)

“Danger at the Zoo” by: Kathleen Ernst

This book is a part of the  American Girl Kit  series by Kathleen Ernst and Valerie Tripp. The first book has been reviewed  here . Recommended Age: 8+ Description:   Kit lands a summer job writing a children's column for her local newspaper. She decides to look for story ideas at the Cincinnati Zoo, where her friend Stirling works as a guide and her old friend Will, the hobo, has a job cleaning cages. As Kit noses around the zoo, she stumbles into some strange doings in the monkey house. Her reporter's instincts tell her that she's onto something worth investigating--and she's determined to get the story. My Rating: 5/5 I did enjoy this book, although not as much as some of the other  American Girl   mysteries. Nonetheless, this book had great morals and educational aspects. “Rebecca and Ana” by: Jacqueline Dembar Greene

This is the 2nd book in the American Girl Rebecca series by Jacqueline Dembar Greene.
