“Really Truly Ruthie” by: Valerie Tripp

This book is a part of the  American Girl Kit  series by Valerie Tripp. The first book has been reviewed  here . Recommended Age : 8 Description :   Ruthie Smithens, a girl who believes in fairy tales and happy endings, would do almost anything to help her best friend, Kit Kittredge, whose family has been hard hit by the Depression. But Ruthie has learned the hard way that offers of help, even between friends, are tricky. When Ruthie finds out some bad news about the Kittredges' house while at her father's bank, she has to find a way to help the Kittredges reach Kit's Aunt Millie, so that there can be at least the chance of a happy ending! My Rating: 5/5 This is such a sweet book! There are great morals for kids including generosity (and how to handle that in regards to protecting others’ pride), understanding the life situations of others and how that affects their decisions as well as humility when something is done well. It was an excellent book and I would highly...

“Happy Birthday, Kit!” By: Valerie Tripp

This is the 4th book in the  American Girl Kit  series by Valerie Tripp. The first book has been reviewed  here . Recommended Age: 8 Description:  With no time or money to spare, the chances of Kit having a birthday party are pretty slim. But when Aunt Millie comes for a visit, Kit finds new reasons to hope. My Rating: 5/5 I really liked this book! It shows how desperate people were for money in order to survive, but also how creative (and even generous) they were! I love the idea of Miss Mildred’s almanac and I wish American Girl sold it. “Kit’s Surprise” by: Valerie Tripp

This is the 3rd book in the  American Girl Kit  series by Valerie Tripp. The first book has been reviewed  here . Recommended Age: 8 Description:  Just before Christmas, Kit overhears the terrible news that her family may lose their house. Can she still find a way to make the holidays bright? My Rating: 5/5 This was a sweet book. It was not as interesting or attention grabbing as the other ones (so far), but it was still good. “Kit Learns a Lesson” by: Valerie Tripp

This is the 2nd book in the American Girl Kit series by Valerie Tripp. The first book has been reviewed here . Recommended Age: 8 Description:   Kit hopes her dad will find a job soon so that everything can return to normal. But a trip to the soup kitchen shows Kit how much the Depression has changed everything. My Rating: 5/5 I enjoyed this book! My biggest criticism is that I did not appreciate how Kit shared one character’s personal information and it was not addressed as wrong later in the book. I found this to be disrespectful to that character and their family.  Things to be aware of in “Kit Learns a Lesson” Language: 1 “gosh” 3 “stupid” Mild name calling including “bum.” Violence: A mention of suicide (not in the actual story, but in the “looking back” historical section) Links to the book: Amazon:  https://a.co/d/61do5wD Goodreads:  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29104679

“Meet Kit” by: Valerie Tripp

This is the 1st book in the American Girl Kit series by Valerie Tripp. Recommended Age: 8 Description:  Kit's world turns upside down when Mother's friends come to stay with them and Dad loses his business. Will life ever be the same again? My Rating: 5/5 I love the Kit series! There are so many great traits of these books for young girls and even adults to follow and learn from! I love that Kit’s parents talk about their problems first as a couple and then to the rest of the family. The only thing I would add would be prayed (both between the parents and then the entire family). Overall, though, Tripp writes a great outline for couples/families to follow. Things to be aware of in “Meet Kit” Language: A character is called a “shrimp” 2 “gosh” 1 “stupid” (in reference to a person) Mild name calling including “sourpuss” Links to the book: Amazon:  https://a.co/d/0Y1MA9u Goodreads:  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6202732

“Five Little Peppers and How They Grew” by: Margaret Sidney

Recommended Age: 8-11 Description :   Times are tough around the little brown house! The widowed Mrs. Pepper has to sew all day long just to earn enough to pay the rent and to feed the five growing Peppers. But she faces poverty and trouble with a stout heart, a smiling face, and the help of her jolly brood: blue-eyed Ben, the eldest and the man of the house at the age of 11; pretty Polly, so eager to cook for the family and make everyone happy and comfortable; and the three littlest Peppers, Joel, Davie, and baby Phronsie. A favorite of children, parents, and teachers for generations, this heartwarming classic first appeared in 1880. Since then, it has inspired countless young imaginations with its tender tales of the ways in which courage and good cheer can overcome adversity. My Rating 5/5 This was a really cute, book. Overall, I really liked it! My only complaint would be that the kids do have random outbursts in which they demand their own way. Now, “their own way” is typical...
